DRAFT PROGRAMME ON EUI AA’S BRUSSELS EVENT

ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The event’s proposal relates to the topic of digital transformation and artificial intelligence & robotics in Europe. These two interrelated issues are commonly perceived as a key driver of growth and socio-economic change from a global perspective.

Based on the recent Commission communication 'Artificial Intelligence for Europe', the EUI Alumni Association intends to organise a Brussels-based event and invite alumni from different sectors across Europe to an EUI Alumni panel in order to discuss the above issues and open a debate on the three pillars highlighted by the Commission’s Communication:

1) being ahead of technological developments and encouraging uptake by the public and private sectors,

2) ensuring an appropriate legal and ethical framework,

3) and preparing for socio-economic change.

The aim of the debate will be that of finding some workable answers to this set of questions:

(i) what is the outlook for uptake of artificial intelligence in diverse sectors?

(ii) what are the ethical and legal considerations to be taken into account, today and in the future?

(iii) and how can the social sciences and humanities help to prepare for possible social change?

The discussion will be followed by a networking reception.

The event itself will be open to both Alumni and a broader public.
